LIL’ AREYA 1ST BIRTHDAY

My baby is now 1 year 2 weeks old (to be exact) and it seems like only yesterday, that I hold her for the first time. I can still feel the warmth of her tiny yet healthy body against mine, her husky first cry still resonates in my ear, I remember her sparkling little eyes in dazed of confusion when we stared at each other for the very first time and gosh… she smelled like heaven… owh ok! she still smell good to me no matter how sweaty she is.

And looking at her now, I just could not believe that it’s been a year since and I can’t described enough the magnitude of joy, happiness and love that has filled our life ever since…(and so are dizziness, sleepless (nites), restless, ‘money’less, ‘party’less and ‘clothes’less for mommy and daddy). Below is her very, very infrequent night outing, which is way past her bedtime as she usually dozes of by 7.30pm.

So, what did we do to celebrate areya’s 1st birthday? Initially, we planned to organise a small party at one of the fastfood restaurant with only family members and close friends but after much deliberation, hubby suggested of having just a ‘small do’ at home. Since my in-laws are in-town visiting and mom and kak long are still in Mekah, I instantaneously agreed. For me, what’s the point of organising a big bash birthday party when the most significant person (which is of course my mom) is not around and furthermore at this age, Areya is experiencing double whammy of strangers and separation anxiety. Nevertheless, a birthday cake is a must and so are lots and lots of still photos and recorded videos (hmm…. Otherwise Areya will sulk at me once she starts to understand the significance of celebrating and organising HER birthday party).
I ordered a lip smacking chocolate cake from Wiz (wiz, though ewok is cute but brannan is much adorable and thanks to you! You made the cake looked too adorable to eat la and the best thing is areya recognised her brannan….yippeee….) with brannan bear chubbily gracing the top of the cake.


The party started at 7.40pm and ended at approximately 8.05pm since Areya is waaayyyyyy to grumpy and sleepy to continue with her birthday celebration.

You might be asking why didn’t we organise her birthday party on the 1st Jan since it was a public holiday and me being a PR practitioner for like forever should know better when it comes to organising events and celebrations but when it comes to my baby…aiyooo!!! I tell you all the deadlines go haywire, my all-time punctuality goes down the drain (especially true when I have set certain time for gurlfriends), my contact lenses stays in tact in their respective boxes (as it is faster to grab my spectacles than to put on the lenses), my so-called sexy ‘digital perm’ coiffure is always tied up in a messy bun or pony tail and of course the lists are endless.

In fact on the 1st Jan, I got it all lined up for her with party packs, party poppers, balloons and whatnots, but being a hard-headed herself (inherited 100% from me), she conveniently adjusted her bedtime routine from the usual 7.30pm to 6.00pm and totally refused her dinner, which is usually served at 6pm and kept on pointing at the bedroom. Reckon, that she has a mind of her own and would want to celebrate her birthday on the exact date and not even a day early!
